| When
born in Winchester Indiana on Friday the 13th of October 1939 I was given
the handle of Robert Max Shaffer . The little town of Stillwell claimed
the first 18 years of my life where I graduated from Stillwell High School
in 1958 with a whopping big class of 21. The town of Stillwell is located
on the North Central border of indiana between LaPorte and South Bend and
proudly claims a population of 200, or there about.
I enlisted in the US Army in 1958 and retired in 1987. Stateside duty stations included Fort's Leonard Wood, Rucker, Lewis, Eustis, Gordon, and the Seattle and Boston Recruiting Command's. Overseas duties included Germany, not long enough, and the Far East, way to long. With Army Aviation I was TDY (temporary duty) to several countries to include China, Japan, Korea (South and North), Taiwan, Philippines Island, Guam, Italy, Cambodia, Spain, India, and one whole long day in Russia. I was also TDY to all the major Army posts in the good ol USA to include Alaska and Hawaii. My duties included all areas of Aviation, Signal, Electronics, Recruiter, and incompacator of enemy personnel. Elise Yvonne ( Vonnie ) Carlisle,
of Anniston Alabama, consented to marry me and on February
10, 1961 we were joined in Holy Matrimony. The marriage must have took
because we had four children. Our first born was (and still is) a daughter,
we named her Lynn and she arrived on February 6, of 1962. She now lives
in Endicott Washington with her husband BJ, her 2 daughters and his son
and daughter. Our second, also a daughter, Robin Yvonne, was born in Hollywood
Caifornia February of 1963. She left us one year later. Our third daughter,
Kelley, came to us in July of 1965. She has 2 daughters and makes her home
in Pullman, Wa. Finally a son in Jun of 1967. Jason has one daughter and
is serving with the US Army Aviation detachment in We have lived in Augusta Ga.
since we retired from the Army in 1987 and spend most of our time trying
to put miles on our old Up date on the motor home
stuff. We finally retired the old motor home with just over 253,000 miles
on it.

Our
HOG years:
Getting older does not mean buying a rocking chair for some of us. We decided to get a HOG to rock on. Not as confortable on a long trip as the Winnebago but a lot more fun. |
